[PRODUCT] Ryuoh stone; suitable forms for an iwagumi layout!

Ryuoh stones have a variety of appearance due to the white line and wrinkles.
Their forms are suitable for an iwagumi layout which evokes a reef. For making
such layout, an important point is to pay attention to the ridge line and the
continuity of stones.

——————————————————————————–

Whether in nature or in the aquarium, aquatic plants grow through photosynthesis.
They absorb CO2 for this essential process but from the viewpoint of nutrients,
CO2 is merely a carbon source. Besides carbon, aquatic plants need nitrogen,
phosphorus, potassium as well as trace elements such as iron and manganese for
healthy growth. If these plants are given an opportunity for photosynthesis
only, they will grow big but may show some growth disorder including thin, poor
stems and leaves, yellowed leaves and bleached new buds. The cause of these
symptoms is lack of nutrients. Nutrients are the source of amino acid, nucleic
acid and chlorophyll, crucial to the healthy development of the stems and
leaves of aquatic plants.
In nature, these nutrients are supplied in the form of nutrient salts dissolved
in river water or circulating in lakes and ponds. In the aquarium tank,
however, a certain amount of minerals supplied through the change of tank water
but it is not sufficient in terms of both types and amount. Tap water contains
a relatively high level of calcium and magnesium but no iron and manganese in
most cases. Even if these elements are contained in tap water, hey are most
likely to be combined with other substances and become unusable to aquatic
plants. For nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium which are actively absorbed by
aquatic plants, it is difficult to supplement the required amounts to a Nature
Aquarium which has lush plants just by water change. In nature, a sufficient
amount of these nutrients is supplied by dissolution of organic matters such as
the feces of living organisms and decomposed plants, but they are usually
removed from tap water through the purification process. For Nature Aquarium,
Power Sand and Aqua Soil containing nutrients and organic matters are used for
the substrate for the purpose of nutrient supplementation to aquatic plants.
During the initial stage, mainly nitrogen and minerals are released into the
water from the substrate but the amount will be lower once the substrate is
covered with thriving aquatic plants. Another issue is insufficient supply of
phosphorus and potassium in contrast to sufficient, or at times excessive,
amounts of nitrogen in the water. Another source of nutrients in the aquarium
is fish feces and unconsumed fish foods. These are a source of nitrogen and
phosphorus but cannot be relied on as an effective source of potassium and
trace elements. As a result, Nature Aquarium in the initial stage is prone to
excessive nitrogen and phosphorus, on the one hand, and lack of potassium and
trace elements, on the other. Excessive nitrogen and phosphorus contribute to
the growth of algae, which affects the appearance of the layout and hinders the
healthy growth of aquatic plants.

This size of tank has a large depth, so it gives a perspective in a layout. The second part of the video, from planting to chronological change
will be uploaded next week, so don’t miss it! Also, chronological change is shown in ADA View Vol.87. Please visit our website for the
equipments and layout materials used in this layout. →http://www.adana.co.jp/en/products/

Oil, organic matter, or dust sometimes forms a thin film on the surface of an
aquarium. Having such oil film on the water surface spoils the allurement of an
aquascape. VUPPA-I developed with ADA’s original structure eliminates such film
effectively. And all hand-crafted stainless body does not spoil the appearance
of the aquarium. It can be installed to the frame-less tanks with thickness
from 4~15mm, and it produces excellent oil-removing performance from small to
large tanks.

105-801 VUPPA-I
*It is designed based on the Japanese electrical standard with 100VAC input.

[KNOW-HOW] Here, we introduce tips and technical how-to about NA based on FAQs.
——————————————————————————–

Q) I’m using four NA Lamps for my 60cm aquarium. I sometimes see in shops that
one of the fluorescent lamps used for aquariums with aquatic plant layouts is a
red fluorescent lamp and it is situated at the front side of the aquarium. Will
this enhance the natural feel of the layout? Should I use a red fluorescent lamp?

A) You may feel that reddish aquatic plants look more attractive under a red
fluorescent lamp, but it is merely a color rendering effect produced by the
fluorescent lamp. When focusing on a natural feel, the healthy growth of aquatic
plants, regardless of species, is a matter of critical importance. To make the
red color of reddish aquatic plants appear more attractive, do not rely on the
color rendering effect of the fluorescent lamp but focus on enhancement of leaf
color by supplementing with iron using a nutrient such as ECA. The ultimate
natural look should be obtained by precisely reproducing the leaf color of
healthily grown plants and the fluorescent lamps used in aquatic plant layouts
are expected to bring this out. For this reason, there will be no problem if
only NA Lamps are used. Rather, this arrangement can make growing aquatic plants
look more natural than introducing a red fluorescent lamp among ordinary
fluorescent lamps. The NA Lamp is the first fluorescent lamp designed
exclusively for aquatic plant growth and has excellent plant growing as well as
color rendering effects.

What a great year for the AGA International Aquascaping Contest! 2011 had a record number of entries, nearly doubling our previous best year. We had so many entries that we had to add extra categories, creating even more winners. As a bonus, the nano tanks got their own category this year which they surely deserve.

We also have a new award this year, the “Larry Lampert Most Innovative” award sponsored by Zoo Med Laboratories, Inc., to honor our recently departed friend and AGA President, Larry.
